LEGAL ADVOCACY

The Advocacy Component, in coordination with the other components, shall identify major issues and priorities in society, provide information about these issues, and shall develop a network of informed and concerned individuals with whom the component shall work with.

The component shall present public statements of the Dr. Jovito R. Salonga Center positions related to various issues with the objective of transforming law and shaping public policy through advocacy, collaboration, and community awareness to protect the public's right to participate in the democratic process and to advance the dignity, equality, self-determination, and development of minorities, marginalized sectors, the environment, and those who are incapable of expressing their rights or choices.

The Center shall serve as a resource hub for governmental and non-governmental bodies, such as courts, local legislatures, and academic institutions, and assist them in their functions by serving and testifying as experts on various non-partisan positions in the tradition of the common good.

The Center shall also propose and draft model laws and ordinances to municipal, provincial and national legislatures.

The Center seeks systemic reform to issues of public concern. Only as a last resort, and only on behalf of select causes, will the Center engage in litigation.
