To bring the law closer to the
people, the Salonga Center is bringing the free legal clinic in
the barangay hall of each barangay for the whole month of January.
"This is our way of reaching out to the public,"
Terrence Anton Callao, a Salonga Center volunteer and junior law
student, said in an interview. "We hope that this is a more
effective way of educating people about their basic rights. Instead
of the people coming to the Center, we will personally go and
visit them in their barangays," he added.
Senior and junior law students from the College
of Law are present to assist the residents of each barangay in
their legal queries and problems. Should an affidavit or any legal
document be necessary, the student volunteers will then draft
such document, to be notarized by volunteer lawyers from the Center
and from the Office of the City Legal Assistance Services (OCLAS).
The Salonga Center legal clinic is scheduled in
the following barangays:
Candau-ay: Mon, Jan. 4; Balogo: Tue, Jan 5; Talay: Thu, Jan 7;
