LEGAL EDUCATION &
TRAINING
This
component designs and develops short-term training programs
and non-degree courses for members of the legal profession,
students, community leaders, researchers, policy makers, government
personnel and non-governmental organizations.
The
short term-programs shall aim to discover and transmit knowledge
of the law so as to achieve developmental justice for all.
Programs for students shall instill in them
ethical responsibilities of the legal profession and the social
responsibility for the attainment of a just and humane society.
For
the members of the legal profession, the program will serve
the requirements of the mandatory continuing legal education
of the Supreme Court. To achieve this end, the Dr. Jovito R.
Salonga Center shall see to it that it will be accredited as
a MCLE provider.
For
the other clientele, this component shall ensure that training
programs shall serve the ends of community in particular and
the nation in general. The Dr. Jovito R. Salonga Center shall
develop programs on Katarungang Pambarangay, Alternative Modes
of Dispute Resolution, the teaching of practical law for elementary,
high and college students and other programs designed to enhance
knowledge of the law by government officials and non-governmental
organizations.
The
concept of service-learning as pedagogy of teaching shall be
promoted by the Center in its educational programs. Service-Learning
endeavors to make students achieve their full potential, instilling
in them the ideal of what constitutes leadership and responsible
citizenship. It is the teaching/learning method that connects
meaningful community service with academic learning, personal
growth and civic responsibility. As such, it is a method of
collaboration between the law school and the community with
